PRODUCT END OF LIFE (EOL) NOTICE

(Notification on Termination of SumTotal Toolbook)
June 2021

SumTotal Systems LLC (“SumTotal”) plans to execute an End of Lifecycle (“EOL”) process for the SumTotal Toolbook product.

After a thorough review of the SumTotal Toolbook product, SumTotal has made the determination to discontinue support for this product. This is a legacy solution that was originally launched over 20 years ago and it has become increasingly difficult to support and maintain. The official end of support date for SumTotal Toolbook will be December 31, 2021.

SumTotal’s customers will continue to receive support for the SumTotal Toolbook product until December 31, 2021 or the end of their current maintenance agreement, whichever is sooner. Support will not be renewed for SumTotal Toolbook if support expiry date is before December 31, 2021. If the current support agreement includes support for SumTotal Toolbook after December 31, 2021, SumTotal will contact the customer to amend their support agreement to exclude SumTotal Toolbook, and SumTotal will refund any pre-paid support fees for January 1, 2022 and thereafter. If the customer has not pre-paid for SumTotal Toolbook support beyond January 1, 2022, they will not be invoiced for such support.

For interested customers, SumTotal has negotiated a migration program with a leading provider of content authoring solutions, dominKnow.

Continuing to use ToolBook after End of Life (EOL)

As has always been the case, customers must obtain a new “activation code” from SumTotal when installing ToolBook on a new PC. However, SumTotal may no longer provide activation codes after ToolBook reaches EOL.

If customers anticipate needing to use ToolBook beyond the EOL date, they should consider installing and activating a copy of ToolBook in a “virtual machine” (VM) via virtualization software like VirtualBox or VMWare. This way their activation code will be associated with their virtual machine instead of their physical PC.  Moving their virtual machine to a new PC should not require reactivation of ToolBook.

To activate VM installation, follow the steps in the “MANUALLY ACTIVATING TOOLBOOK” section of the following knowledgebase article: http://tb.sumtotalsystems.com/KBFiles/kb/Activation.html and then send the following information to ToolBook Support (ToolBook.TechnicalSupport@skillsoft.com):

  •      The version of ToolBook you are trying to Activate
  •      Your License Key
  •      The Activation ID from ToolBook

SumTotal will then provide you with an activation code and instructions on how to complete the manual activation process.
